Tristan Kromer

Tristan Kromer is 23 years old and lives in Manhattan, NY. He began playing music at age 4 on violin but switched two years later to the guitar which is his primary instrument. He has studied a variety of genres such as blues, folk, and north Indian raga. His secondary instrument, the bass guitar (five string fretless or fretted), introduced a second set of genres including funk, hard rock, industrial, and pop. Tristan has also played trumpet, piano, sitar, and tablas. He has studied classical and north Indian music theory from New York University, the Sangeet School of World Music, and at Chhandayan with Samir Chatterjee. Tristan has been singing since he was four and has taken lessons at Carnegie Mellon University in opera, the Sangeet School of World Music in north Indian raga, and at Katie Agresta Studios for popular music. Lastly, Tristan studied poetry at Carnegie Mellon University with Jim Daniels. When not working on Static 13, Tristan can been seen playing bass in a variety of projects such as GOED, Scott Wolfson, Clara Forest, and Vacum. He also fronts, plays guitar, and writes for the band Deridian, a fusion/world music ensemble which has just released their first cd. He also spends considerable time contemplating the sociological significance of Xena. |
