Paul GonçalvesBass Guitar |
"Paul's lack of self-discipline hinders his own progress as well as that of others." - Sister Catherine (Paul's 6th Grade teacher) An afficionado of '80's heavy metal, porno movies, and pro wrestling, eccentric bassist Paul Gonçalves (pronounced Gone-sahl-ves) was an early fan of STATIC 13. Gonçalves endeared himself to the band by attending countless shows and bombarding them with ludicrous suggestions as to how they could 'improve' their stage show (e.g., "dump the bass player"). As fate would have it, when the original bassist left the band (in late '97), Paul was waiting in the wings, having learned all of the bass parts note for note! Paul's musical influences include Steve Harris, Geddy Lee, "the dude who plays bass on the theme song to Barney Miller," and, believe it or not, STATIC 13's former bassist Tony Low. Paul explains, "He is a tremendous bass player; I've learned so much from playing his licks." Besides being a multi-faceted musician, the native New Yorker is also an accomplished actor, having recently starred in the critically acclaimed Mercury: The Afterlife and Times of a Rock God, a one-man dramatic play about the life of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. As much as Gonçalves enjoyed playing the part of a rock star, his real dream has always been to be a rock star. Says Paul, "I am thrilled and honored to be a part of STATIC 13 FEATURING PAUL GONÇALVES." No, Paul, they're not changing the name. |
