CRUNCH
Lead Guitar, Vocals |
Crunch, named after his steadily forceful yet melodic style of playing, adds much to the overall feel of STATIC 13. Like a powerfully flowing force of nature, Crunch mesmerizes the listener with his choice of sounds and approach to chord changes. His influences include Jeff Beck, Robert Fripp, David Gilmore, Jimmy Page, Les Dudek, and Joe Walsh. Crunch hails from a musical family. His mother, Linda Mason, was a folk singer in the early sixties who was featured on her own solo album (and performed at the Newport Folk Festival in 1964). Crunch says that she "threw him out" of the house when he switched from acoustic to electric guitar at age 16. After playing in a wedding band for a while ("Don't even ask..." ), Crunch tried his hand in the recording studio as an assistant engineer at Electric Lady studio in New York. In early 1992, Crunch answered an ad in the Village Voice for a lead guitarist. This teamed him up with the group Plutonium, which later evolved into STATIC 13. "We immediately saw that Crunch had great feel for his instrument and had exciting musical ideas, too." |
